This imperial stout pours black with a large creamy tan head with decent retention. The aroma has a sweetness of molasses and dark malt with bitter chocolate to balance it out. The flavor has a very nice creamy chocolate on the front with molasses through the middle, then the molasses is eased off with a dark malt character with an earthy bitterness and then leaves a salted caramel finish. This has a very nice complexity that keeps you enjoying every sip. The mouthfeel has a great creamy texture with a syrupy feel and complements the medium carbonation. This is an original take on an imperial stout that Sawdust City did a great job brewing. Bitterness is no stranger in imperial stouts and it has a pretty big presence on this one, but with its great balance it works so well. You really need to experience this for yourself.
