This Barrel Aged Russian imperial Stout pours dark rich brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is very sweet vanilla forward. The flavor starts with cherry front that leads to a strong whiskey vanilla middle. The finish is where you get a strong smooth creamy finish with strong hints of vanilla. The vanilla is to the point where it’s overpowering. There are no other flavors that you would hope for from this style such as: spiciness, earthy, and the toasted oak character. It has a heavy body with higher carbonation and very hot. I am shocked at the simplicity, there is nothing other than vanilla. It’s very overpowering and this one is a bit one dimensional. Unfortunately for that reason it lowers the drinkability. I personally think if the vanilla was toned down quite a bit it would let the other flavors shine. If that was the case, I would love to revisit it in the future! Overall, it’s average for the style and could use some improvement!
