This red ale pours dark amber brown with very little head. The aroma has a nice toffee and caramel malt character with some clove and herbal sweetness. The flavor follows the aroma very closely. It starts with some caramel malt upfront with hints of toffee, then moves into a mix of herbal sweetness with a pretty big bitterness. The mouthfeel is so light it has almost a watery feel with light carbonation. This is a creative beer with the addition of german malts, which adds a very interesting character. The bitterness is a bit heavy, but overall it does balance out with some nice malt and herbal hints.
