This time of year there is no shortage of pumpkin beers, but barrel aged pumpkin beers are not as easily found. The oaky barrel really brings in some complementary characteristics to pumpkin ales. The pumpkin and spices usually have a bright presence that can be overwhelming, but the barrel calms that down and adds a bit more complexity. This one doesn’t get as much from the bourbon barrel as you would expect, but it still has the hotness and maple on the finish to remind you it’s been in barrels. This is a mild pumpkin beer that would be enjoyable on a chilly fall evening.
