This IPA pours a dark yellow orange color with a nice bright white head and decent retention. The aromas are very sweet and grassy with a nutty malt to round out the bitterness. The taste is much of the same except the bitterness comes to the front. It starts off with a citrus and resin hop character that leads to a sweet malt and overly bitter taste that lingers well past the finish. The deep bitterness has a slight power of pine and grass. The feel is medium bodied with higher carbonation. Overall, they added too much bittering hops on this combination. The bitterness is very overpowering, while it does not let the other characters of the beer shine. There is a large malt presence but it’s hard to detect with the bitter pine and grass character from the hops. It’s a decent offering for Sun King, but nothing above average for the style.
