This russian imperial stout pours a very deep brown with a foamy tan head. The aroma has roasted coffee, bitter chocolate and dark dried fruit that all come together to set you up for the first taste. The flavor has coffee upfront with dark chocolate and a bit of dark fruit through the middle. After the middle closes up, the coffee comes back with an earthy bitterness to finish it off. It has a medium to full body that is a bit lighter than you expect from a russian imperial, but the lighter carbonation brings the brightness down. The coffee presence is right there through the whole experience making this a little one sided. This is a very nicely brewed stout, but it could use some deeper and more complex flavors to round out the coffee. Some extra roasted malt and caramel flavors could really complement the earthy coffee. If you enjoy coffee added beers, then look no further!
