Men’s Room Black | Elysian Brewing | Seattle, WA | Imperial Red Ale
Picture

ABV: 8.9%

Aroma:
  • sweet caramel
  • citrus
  • bitter
Flavor:
  • caramel malt
  • citrus hop
  • heavy bitter finish
Mouthfeel:
  • med-heavy body
  • very bitter
Overall:
This Imperial Red pours dark brown amber with a thick tan head. The flavor is straightforward with sweet caramel and citrus with a bitterness floating in the back. The flavor follows up in the same way; a nice caramel malt upfront with a citrus hoppiness through the middle that ends a big bitter finish. The body is medium to heavy with a small alcohol bite and bitterness. This beer has some incredible character with the caramel sweetness and the citrus hop addition to balance, but it does have a bit too harsh of a bitter finish. This is great for those craving a bitter beer with great character!

Global Warmer | Sixpoint Brewery | Brooklyn, NY | Imperial Red

ABV: 7.0%
IBU: 70

Aroma:
  • sweet malt
  • nice sweetness
  • grapefruit
Flavor:
  • caramel malt
  • light bitterness
  • piney grapefruit
Mouthfeel:
  • medium body
  • high carbonation
Overall:
This imperial red pours a dark reddish amber color with a creamy tan head with little to no retention. The aroma has a nice sweet malt character with some grapefruit and a real nice sweetness. The flavor is much like the aroma upfront with light bitterness and roasted malt middle that is balanced by the piney resin finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and high in carbonation. Overall, this one is a great representation of the style and one I definitely would recommend.
