This black IPA pours an extremely dark brown color with a nice white head and decent retention. The aroma is of tropical fruit, but unlike most IPA’s there is a nice dark malt presence with hints of chocolate in the background. The flavor is incredibly balanced and starts off with a sweet malt front that leads to a strong roast flavor throughout the whole beer. The malt is most prevalent, giving it a nice pine resin and sweet bitter finish from the hop and malt character. This one is surprisingly lighter in body and carbonation, making this very tasty and an easy drinker. Overall, this is a nice black IPA and a good representation of the style! It’s a very straight forward, without much complexity as expected but great balance in character. It really surpassed my expectations and I would highly recommend it.
