This is our favorite Dark Star. The spicing that Fremont added paired up absolutely perfect with the malty oat base and oaky bourbon character. You just have to sit back and relax and enjoy the epic complexity this BBA oatmeal stout has to offer. If you can find this one around, it’s worth it...don’t miss your chance!
2. Tweak by Avery Brewing:
This is an amazing coffee stout with the perfect malt and barrel balance. The coffee addiction is rich and pairs up so well with the oak and caramel sweetness. This is a true complexity star that has a depth beyond that of the marianas trench. You can’t go wrong with this BBA coffee stout, just be ready for a little bit of heat.
3. Black Butte XXVIII by Deschutes Brewing:
This is one amazingly complex and balanced imperial porter. With 50% of this aged in bourbon and scotch barrels, the flavors pulled through are almost unbelievable. The blend Deschutes created brings a near perfect blend with the alcohol not over powering the malt or flavors but complementing them perfectly. The carbonation is a bit higher than we see in many barrel aged beers, but it really allows for the flavors to come through at every point. This imperial porter is one experience you don’t want to miss.
First off I want to start of by saying...WOW, this one is incredible! There is so much complexity between the base of the Russian Imperial Stout all the way to the addition from aging on rum barrels. There is amazing taste of vanilla and oaky spice that is rounded out by the great caramel roast character. This thick, rich, smooth stout would be a great addition to those cold chilly nights! You need to check this one out!
5. Kentucky Christmas Morning by Hardywood:
Wow! Yet another winner from our friends at Hardywood! The complexity from the ginger, coffee and bourbon is just amazing! There is so much going on. The name says it all on this perfect Christmas morning beer!
6. 471 IPA by Breckenridge Brewery:
Double IPA’s don’t come much better than this. It has perfect balance throughout from malt to hops to barrel. The dry hopping bringings out an amazing tropical juiciness that smoothes out to a sweet maltiness; then the magic happens on the finish with the barrel character.
The coffee addition to the Parabola made for a beer that has found its perfection. The coffee rounds out the barrel intensity and pairs perfectly to the maltiness. This is extremely limited so if you get the chance to try it, don’t pass it up!
8. Sin Mint Temptress by Lakewood Brewing:
This has a big resemblance to that box of cookies we all love so much. The lactose addition gives an incredible smooth a creamy feel through the whole profile and the average carbonation balances it all out. This is an amazing stout that brings great flavors together with the perfect complexity, balance and feel. This is the perfect dessert beer to finish off your night.
9. Blind Pig by Russian River Brewing:
This is an awesome all around IPA. It has a nicely balanced malt and hop character with a smooth and easy drinking feel. The aroma is rich with hoppy character that carries right into the first sip. This is very enjoyable and incredibly juicy and balanced.
10. Foolery by Hardywood:
This is super thick with some deep intensity. The caramel, chocolate and vanilla all flow together to create a super enjoyable ale that is balanced out by a nice bitter chocolate finish.
